Week 3

This week I chose to listen to "I Got Rhythm" written and performed by George Gershwin and Ira Gershwin and it was published in 1930. I personally loved this song because of the construction of the notes and interments. I feel like the song was put together beautifully in a way that it makes anyone genuinely happier when you listen to it. It has a peppy tune to it but its also something that you would hear in a really nice restaurant.  I normally don't like piano songs, but I like this song. It doesn't get boring to listen to and I was easily able to listen to it 3 times. It wasn't my typical style of songs that I listen to, but I still was able to enjoy it. It's interesting how some songs speak to you differently than you thought they would. I really enjoyed listening to this song, and I am excited to listen to similar songs further on in the class.

Week 2

For this week I chose the song "Stagolee" by Mississippi John Hurt. It was reordered in 1928. It is a very moving song that you have to listen to multiple times in order to really understand the full meaning of it. The first time that I listened to it, I mostly focused on the music and the sound of the song. The next couple of times that I listened to it I focused on the lyrics and the meaning of the song. By listening to it multiple times, I was able to grasp more of the song than if I had only listened to it once.  His deep, rich voice really embodies the song. His voice and the guitar go together really well. I feel like the song wouldn't have as much meaning if it wasn't for his voice and guitar. It made it much more interesting to listen to, and gave the song more life. I really thought this song was interesting, and it shows that there is so much more to a song than what meets the eye.

Week 1

Hey everyone! My name is Sasha Graham! I am currently a sophomore here at Southern Utah University. My favorite way to relieve stress is to put in my headphones and listen to music. My favorite song is Unwritten by Natasha Bedingfield. Gives me a boost of serotonin and instantly makes me feel better. My favorite genre of music is Pop even though it's basic. It's fun to listen to and party at with my friends.
