Week 2

For this week I chose the song "Stagolee" by Mississippi John Hurt. It was reordered in 1928. It is a very moving song that you have to listen to multiple times in order to really understand the full meaning of it. The first time that I listened to it, I mostly focused on the music and the sound of the song. The next couple of times that I listened to it I focused on the lyrics and the meaning of the song. By listening to it multiple times, I was able to grasp more of the song than if I had only listened to it once.

His deep, rich voice really embodies the song. His voice and the guitar go together really well. I feel like the song wouldn't have as much meaning if it wasn't for his voice and guitar. It made it much more interesting to listen to, and gave the song more life. I really thought this song was interesting, and it shows that there is so much more to a song than what meets the eye.

  1. I love your thoughts about music Sasha and how there is so much more than what you first see. I completely agree. There's the lyrics, the sound, the tone of voice, the tempo and many other things. The song makes me ponder about if there are any cruel stagolee's in my life that I need to get rid of. I know I don't have relationships with killers but I definitely have influences that I should cut off contact with. I love you comments!
