Week 7

For this week, I chose to do my music blog on the song, "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag" by James Brown. The main thing that drew me to do my blog on this song is the overall beat and energy of the song. This song, I imagine would be the talk of the town. It makes me want to dance, its got that type of energy and level of energy. I have been to a couple parties where they start playing this song, and the energy in the room would just get so built up and we would all start dancing and having so much fun. I like how the lyrics are entertaining to listen to, and they are really innocent. It is about how "he's got a brand new bag" and how he is having the time of his life. I really enjoyed listening to this song. I had already heart it a lot before, but it was fun to listen to it multiple times and listen even closer to the lyrics. It makes the song so much more fun when you understand the lyrics and are familiar with the notes. I love this song...

Week 6

This week for my listening blog I chose to do the most familiar song to me and that is "My Girl" by the Temptations. This is one of those classic feel good songs that everyone knows and it makes everyone just so happy and bubbly inside. Something that I've always loved about this song is the beginning. This song has such a unique beginning that gives a great hook. I think at this time the instruments that most artists were using and the rhythms and this is a great example of that. I also noticed that this song contains a kind of crooning with the singers and it makes people feel happy

Week 5

This week for my blog post I chose to do the song that we listened to in class today that caught my attention, and that song is Tennessee Waltz by Patti Page. For some reason when this song played in class it automatically caught my attention. I think Patti Page had such a unique tone to her voice that drew in a lot of people and that's why this song made it to the #1. I think she has such a unique way of crooning while singing that was addictive to a lot of people.  I love the fact that she introduced the idea of this new technology that would allow artists to duet themselves. The beginning of the song reminds me of one of the old school songs that were played in the background of captain America-a song that just makes everyone immediately happy. In short, this song just sounds like a good memory.

Week 4

This week I chose to do my listening blog on Duke Ellington's song, Caravan. I like the general feel that this song gives you in the beginning. It feels and sounds very exotic and sophisticated. It definitely sounds like a song you would play in a spy movie. It expresses some mystery and excitement throughout the whole piece.  Something that I noticed about this piece in particular that I really enjoyed was the gradual addition of instruments and beats. Duke Ellington keeps this up for the whole piece, there's constantly different beats, rhythms, and new instruments adding constantly to give the song a lot of depth.
