Week 4

This week I chose to do my listening blog on Duke Ellington's song, Caravan. I like the general feel that this song gives you in the beginning. It feels and sounds very exotic and sophisticated. It definitely sounds like a song you would play in a spy movie. It expresses some mystery and excitement throughout the whole piece.

Something that I noticed about this piece in particular that I really enjoyed was the gradual addition of instruments and beats. Duke Ellington keeps this up for the whole piece, there's constantly different beats, rhythms, and new instruments adding constantly to give the song a lot of depth.

  1. Hi Sasha, I loved how you related the song to a spy movie because I actually thought the exact same thing. The tone and the speed and the instruments just nail a spy movie. I though you did a good job of describing the piece and saying what stood out.

  2. Hey Sasha! I also did my post on the song Caravan by Duke Ellington so reading your blog post was very interesting to get a different perspective. I like how you used the adjective exotic to describe this song. I also appreciate how you mentioned that the different beats and instruments added depth to the song. I strongly agree.
